Point of Care Field
Testing Kits

Point of care (POC) testing is medical testing that is performed outside of a laboratory setting. POC testing is also known as bedside testing, near-patient testing, remote testing, mobile testing, and rapid diagnostics. The implementation of POC testing is useful for value-based healthcare where there is a need for more convenient diagnosis, accurate monitoring, early detection, and the prevention and management of chronic conditions. The driving notion behind POCT is to bring the test conveniently and immediately to the patient.

Benefits

The portability and accessibility of POC testing devices have brought about several advantages in the healthcare industry. When used properly, these devices can help make medical practices and treatments more efficient, effective, and higher quality overall. POC testing can also combat larger issues such as minimizing emergency room overcrowding, lowering diagnosis and prescription times, and streamlining major accident response.

The need for POC test kits in India

Typhoid Infection 90% of cases in the world are from Asia with India constituting the highest disease burden.
100,000 people are infected by Dengue each year in India. Dengue Virus
Chikungunya Virus 5,000 cases are reported in India per year caused by spread of mosquitoes.

Case for India Relevant Solutions

Various infectious and vector-borne diseases like typhoid, dengue, malaria, and chikungunya plague the people of India. The need for fast, accurate, accessible tests in remote villages where healthcare infrastructure and timely medical care is limited is a major concern. Many people remain undiagnosed and a slow response to technology innovation prolongs the wait for a cure. Point-of-care tests in India can diagnose patients instantly paving the way for early treatment and cure.

Dengue Combo Test – NS-1/lgG/lgM

Globally, WHO has estimated that around 3 billion people reside in areas where there are risks of exposure to dengue virus and nearly 50 million people are infected with dengue virus every year. Caused by the Dengue virus, Dengue fever is spread by mosquitoes. Dengue virus is a RNA virus, consisting of four serotypes (1, 2, 3 and 4) all of which cause infection.

Better diagnosis and treatment will prevent patients from going through this ordeal. The early diagnosis of dengue is also required for identifying an epidemic and also for implementing effective vector control measures.

How it works

The Dengue Combo Test checks for a combination of antibodies and antigens. Firstly, NS1 (non-structural protein 1) antigen–a highly conserved glycoprotein for all the serotypes– is detectable in blood from first day after the onset of fever up to day 9. NS1 antigen offers earlier detection of the infection compared to the conventional serological methods that are currently used.

Secondly, the two different classes of antibodies produced by the body in response to a dengue fever infection, IgG and IgM. Accurate diagnosis may require a combination of these tests because the body's immune system produces varying levels of antibodies over the course of the illness.

Works in Low-resource settings

Cases with a primary or secondary dengue virus infection in the initial febrile phase of illness will not escape detection with the use of this combination test. Utilisation of this combination is crucial in the diagnosis of dengue virus infection in health care centres lacking sophisticated laboratory facilities as it means that one laboratory session would rule out dengue virus infection and also identify cases with severe thrombocytopenia who might have otherwise escaped detection.

Easy, Early & Exact

  • Early detection – detects NS-1 antigen on the first day of fever
  • Easy interpretation – strip width of 4mm for NS-1 and lgG/lgM card designed for easy viewing
  • Stable – 2.0 gm desiccant and high thickness of pouch layers project against moisture
  • Reliable – Relative sensitivity: 98.2%
  • Reliable – Relative specificity: 97.4%

Overview

Malaria is caused by the Plasmodium parasite living in the Anopheles mosquitoes. Of over hundred types of Plasmodium parasites living in the mosquitoes only five can infect human beings. About a million cases of malaria are reported every year in India. A quick and accurate diagnosis leads to life saving treatments.

How it works

Malaria Antigen Detection Test assists in the diagnosis of malaria by providing evidence of the presence of malaria parasites in human blood. The test detects specific antigens (proteins) produced by malaria parasites in the blood of infected individuals. It is an alternative to diagnosis based on clinical grounds or microscopy; particularly where good quality microscopy services cannot be readily provided. Malaria Pf/PAN – Antigen Detection Test can detect all 4 types of malaria parasites.

Easy, Early & Exact

  • Monoclonal advantage – specific detection of Plasmodium Falciparum (pf) through monoclonal antibodies against pHRP2
  • Reliable – detection of all 4 types of Plasmodium (PAN) through monoclonal antibodies against pLDH
  • Detects all four types of Plasmodium parasites – P.Falciparum, P.Vivax, P.Ovale, P.Malariae
  • Reliable - 98% sensitivity and specificity

Overview

Chikungunya is caused by arboviral Chikungunya virus spread by Aedes mosquitoes. The word Chikungunya means ‘to walk bent over’ referring to the effects of joint pains that are a characteristic of those suffering from the disease. In recent years, the number of cases reported in India are rising.

How it works

The Chikungunya IgM Test detects IgM–the earliest antibody produced–in human serum and plasma. With no instruments required, this one-step procedure gives results quickly aiding the healthcare professionals to start the treatment at the latest.

Easy, Early & Exact

  • Detects the earliest antibody – lgM
  • Reliable – 98.4% sensitivity
  • Reliable – 98% specificity
  • Easy interpretation of results – high intensity of control and test lines
